It was one of those amazing nights When everything seems to go just right This is it this is life Sit back enjoy it You always think you’re not there yet Standing in some thicker dream you can’t forget Do you get it this is it It’s a catch 22 and then too many more come You’re walking round in darkness like you just begun All you can say is here we go again It was amazing enough for me Not enough for you to even talk about It’s like half your shirt’s tucked in half‘s hangin out Wondering if you’re in this or not Is not my favourite pastime it makes me cry Do you get it This is my life And what seems ok to you is not ok to me This road has no exit on to jubilee I don’t know why I don’t turn myself around I don’t know why I don’t turn myself around I don’t know why I don’t turn myself around

You broke my heart You promised to be careful That's not what it's there for but you did any way Right from the start I knew what I was in for It was so plain and simple But I did anyway Now I'm on the mend, thanks to a few friends I realize that I'm OK and this was nothing special I realize that I'm OK and this was nothing special Loneliness had the best of meI guess When you came along Dow you're on a list of things I detest My list is not that long You broke my heart You promised to be careful That's not what it's there for but you did any way Right from the start I knew what I was in for It was so plain and simple But I did anyway Now I'm on the mend, thanks to a few friends I realize that I'm OK and this was nothing special I realize that I'm OK and this was nothing special

Best kiss ever and I can surely say I know nothing better has ever come my way Tell me you'll love me til the day I die And kiss me baby one more time I waited for that moment and when it did arrive Every little bit of me came alive When you leaned over put your arm upon my shoulder And you kissed me baby oh my my I ain't asking for no band of gold no mansion on the hill Just a little bit of your time if ya got some time to kill If you can't say you live me til the day I die Just kiss me baby one more time Best kiss ever and I can surely say I know nothing better has ever come my way Tell me you'll love me til the day I die And kiss me baby one more time

We passed don the sidewalk last Saturday Almost stopped and we went our own way I went to the corner and ordered a beer Three in the morning I’m still sitting there With good times around me but I wasn’t there Thoughts of him kept coming in My horoscope said my sorrows could swim I don’t think I’ll ever get over him He could fly by the seat of his pants He had every move when it came time to dance His words went right thought me and into my heart I stumbled I tripped up and I feel apart
Words couldn’t tell me why he was gone and I was left in a spin He opened the door and he wouldn’t let me in I don’t think I’ll ever get over him I’ll never ever get over him

I’m sticking to the simple things in life Gonna pack up my troubles now and smile Tear down complication put my two feet on the ground My cup runneth over cause I use a smaller one I had a job in a hospital with all the benefits Gave it up to have some fun and earn my tax free tips Please don’t get me wrong no one thing’s better than the rest But I’m a whole lot happier with a whole lot less I could learn all that technology read all those magazines Save my Shoppers Drug Mart points and buy some girly things But I’m happy with my 6-string I have a favourite pen If you can keep it simple there’s nothing left to win I used to wake up early shaking with the thought Of everything I had to do before 12 o’clock Spending way too much time pleasing everyone Now I got nothing to do today but I’m having way more fun

Don't fall in the water when you're crossing that bridge You can’t be too certain levels are hidden Beneath the surface currents are strong You drift away wondering where it was you went wrong You where the crazy one where did that get you How does that fit you now You’re on the crosswords and I know you’ve been told You’re gonna make it somehow You’re gonna make it somehow You’re gonna make it somehow Don't fall in the water when you're crossing that bridge You can’t be too certain levels are hidden Beneath the surface currents are strong You drift away wondering where it was you went wrong
That don’t mean you can’t get your feet wet Or upset the apple card once in a while You’re not on your own here look closely you will find Someone who’s willing to guide Someone who’s willing to guide Someone who’s willing to guide Don't fall in the water when you're crossing that bridge You can’t be too certain levels are hidden Beneath the surface currents are strong You drift away wondering where it was you went wrong You drift away wondering, drift away wondering where it was you went wrong

Used to it 03:18
Walking in the country winter woods alone Pine needles covering the ground I tried it out for a week or so now I gotta go I don’t have you around
You’d think that I’d be used to it by now You’d think that I’d get used to it You say I have taken up the likes of manic dreaming I have to ask so tell me know what do you know about dreaming You don’t get the ups and down you don’t climb to fall You don’t get me at all You’d think that I’d be used to it by now You’d think that I’d get used to it Out here by the ocean with the old house gone and everything I stand outside and breath the air The view is fine and it’s utter all the time Sometimes I know you’re out there You’d think that I’d be used to it by now You’d think that I’d get used to it

Did your mama ever tell you to spend some time alone To celebrate the emptiness and make yourself at home You buy yourself a novel and tune up your guitar You take a stroll down loneliness but never make it far It's only lonely loneliness I never liked a windy day it makes the weather worse I never liked to take a risk or trust the universe But those rainy days are coming and on weekend afternoons I'll sit alone 'cause it's been know to heal those mother wounds It's only lonely loneliness

Hangin' On 02:25
There’s one big tree in the middle of the city And the leaves are all yellow but there still hanging on I couldn’t help notice it’s almost February Cold and windy and there’ll still hanging on Hanging on for dear life and what it’s worth Hanging on like everything here on earth There’s one big street in the middle of the city People keep walking with their heads hanging down I couldn’t help notice it’s all so pretty And they just keep walking with their heads hanging down Hanging on for dear life and what it’s worth Hanging on like everything here on earth There’s one big hill in the middle of the city Cars drive up and drive back down If there’s no wind if there’s no big hurry Someone might get out and look around

Sweetland 02:44
We still pray We still take a walk together and the crowd still comes on Sunday when they can Come what may there's sunny days and ocean sprays Riches that'll never make you grand we work the land for leisure now to feel it in our hands here on this Sweetland I can't say which time of year is better You just never know the weather til that very day That's ok It comes hand in hand with understanding somethings are never gonna change I never though I'd say I like the way nothing goes as planed here on this Sweetland This ground runs for acres I'm pretty sure it's all been underneath my feet Where the old road runs across it The rivers and the marshes to the tiniest creek cold and sweet We still pray We still take a walk together and the crowd still comes on Sundays when they can Come what may There's sunny days and ocean sprays Riches that'll never make you grand We work the land for leisure now to feel it in our hands here on this Sweetland

This old boat turns the water white waves carry the sparkling light stay inside watch through the holes the sun is warm but the wind is cold When night falls they won't see you cry the moon won't laugh at you stars won't lie soon all the bright city lights are out of sight and we won't hear a sound In the morning look to the sky see the grey clouds pass you by we'll talk of weather and far off lands golden treasures silver sands When night falls they won't see you cry the moon won't laugh at you stars won't lie soon all the bright city lights are out of sight and we won't hear a sound Wherever you go that's where you'll be in the middle of nowhere on the deep blue see it's just horizons and blue on blue and this old boat will carry you through chorus

about

Sherry Ryan St John's, Newfoundland and Labrador

Blending country folk with her Irish-Newfoundland roots, Sherry affirms her place as one of Atlantic Canada’s best-loved singer-songwriters. Once named “St. John’s answer to Lucinda Williams” and compared to John Prine for “reeling you in with her heartfelt stories and a hint of humour,” Sherry’s rich vocal style is described as “so good—so distinct—it’s absolutely unforgettable” (Exclaim!). ... more
